Mark Shagal is the great artist of the 20th century. He was engaged in graphics, painting, stenography, wrote autobiographical prose and poems in his native Yiddish. Shagal"s work is an amazing interweaving of ancient Jewish traditions and innovative trends. Having lived for nearly a hundred years, changing the cities and countries, he always kept national identity, remaining a man outside geography and time.
This brilliant artist who did not want to adhere to any proportions, compositional system and luminets, created at an instinctive level, so, so, so, so, so, so, so. As he saw and felt. He created his own world. A world of sparkling colors and sparkling feelings. A world in which ordinary people walk on the ground with the same naturalness and walk on the clouds. The world in which faith, love, fidelity give rise to amazing combinations of shapes, colors and images, give a feeling of flight. He was born in Vitebsk, studied in St. Petersburg, was inspired in Paris, lived in the USA, but wherever his fate was thrown, walked always kept his hometown in his heart, drawing his quiet streets and low houses. Vitebsk is the second most important “model” of the artist. The place of the first from 1909 until the end of his life was occupied by Bella - beloved, wife, muse.
The art of Chagall is extremely multifaceted. Having studied all the artistic directions and currents of the beginning of the twentieth century, he did not join any group, remaining faithful to his own unique style. Shagal left behind a rich heritage, which includes many paintings and graphic works, scenographic and literary works
