The publication of this book became possible thanks to the work on collecting and studying blockade texts, which is conducted at the European University. Since 2019, one of the new scientific centers of the EUSPB, the Center for the Study of the EGO-Documents, has been included in the work with the documentary heritage of the blockade. This volume is dedicated to the phenomenon of the blockade diary. His main idea is to answer the question “What is a block diary?”. In the introductory article, the famous poet and philologist Polina Barskova analyzes the practice of keeping a diary in the blockade Leningrad, talks about his functions, appointment, genre features and content. In conditions of catastrophic hunger, cold, enemy bombing and shelling, hundreds of thousands of people were locked in the city. Many of them had access to paper and ink, and some began to keep diaries. Records were conducted by people of various ages and social groups - from schoolchildren to representatives of the party nomenclature. In this volume, the seven most characteristic texts that show different faces of blockade diaries are presented. The afterword of Anastasia and Alexei Pavlovsky is dedicated to the place of the blockade diary in the structure of cultural memory of the blockade, as well as their symbolic significance for various stages of understanding the blockade of Leningrad, including for modernity
