Edgar Degas

The work of Edgar Degas is a separate world in European painting of the second half of the XIX century. He participated in all, excluding the seventh, exhibitions of impressionists, although he critically referred to the work of most associates in these exhibitions. Demanding primarily to himself, Degas have been looking for new ways for self -expression in painting all his life. Unlike most impressionists, Degas were little interested in the landscape. His element is a line in the center of creativity - a person in motion with his gestures and unusual poses. He boldly introduces Zhokeev, modists, laundries, ballerinas, naked female body into his work. The artist called the series of his pastels of the 1880s and later years: "The suite of naked women - swimming, washing, washing, dried up, wiping, combing their hair or letting themselves comb." The color scheme of the work of Degas is in complete harmony with the pattern. Since the mid-1870s, a pastel has become a favorite technique. By the end of his life, Deg had weakened vision.
