The short lyrical novel by the representative of the Serbian “Lost Generation”, a participant in the First World War, Milos Tsrnyansky (1893-1977) was written on behalf of a sailor, who gradually merges with an autobiographical storyteller Peter Rayik. This is a collection of scattered and differently time impressions covering the battlefields in Galicia, a hospital in Krakow, children"s memories, a hero’s love, the death of a mother, unnecessary marriage, return from war, etc. In the “Lieutenant Prose” of the Central Executive Committee reflects the fragmented, depersonal world of people who plunged into the ritual of extermination of their own kind, and the paintings of the world massacre are interspersed with subtle psychologism. The book opens with an extensive preface by the literary critic and writer Mikhailo Pantich. The publication is addressed to all connoisseurs of Serbian literature
