The Bible of the poor (or the Bible for the people) appeared during the period of the tense socio-political struggle of the beginning of the reign of Peter I, in the era of the fall of the authority of the Church and the development of atheism. This is the only Bible for illiterate, printed outside the state printing house, but at the same time preserved artistic authorship. The entire illustrative series of 20 sheets of the Book of Genesis and 16 sheets of the Apocalypse was developed by a large master from the Belarusian town of Dubrovno named Vasily Korn. Researchers consider it one of the most famous Russian engraves and the author of the first secular bows of the late XVII-XVIII centuries. The master cut out the blanks on linden boards, printed black and white prints on Dutch paper and then painted them manually. It is not known for certain which editions served as an abutment for the icon imagination of the engraving, but it is obvious that various Russian and Western iconographic ideas were intertwined in his work, and illustrations stylistically resemble frescoes. Almost the entire circulation of the original Bible was seized and destroyed: the church considered the book heretical, and the images of God are non -canonical. Only one copy has survived, which is currently stored in the department of the rare book of the State Public Library named after M.E. Saltykova-Shchedrin in St. Petersburg.

You can easily separate the painted pages from the album, design, hang on the wall or give friends. Pre -signed the work with your name so that art historians do not have a question about the authenticity of the work. When painting, it is not necessary to follow the original
