The anniversary, magnificent, expanded gift edition of the Verner color nomenclature (1821) is the most sign and famous book about color and its origin in nature.
For the first time published in 1814, the “Nomenclature of Flower” Werner was a visual guide to identify minerals according to external characteristics with 54 color samples. Compiled by the German geologist Abraham Gottlob Werner, the book was expanded and supplemented in 1821 by a Scottish-free artist Patrick Saim, who added references to the species of animals and plants to the minerals of Werner, and also supplied each of the flowers mentioned with the model with the corresponding filling, bringing the total number of shades up to 110.
The color classifier developed by Saym specifically for naturalists was a single standard that should be referred to when describing any object of the natural world. Thus, Saym in his innovative work provided scientists with color terminology - they could rely on it when choosing the most suitable term for a standardized description of the objects of the surrounding world. The publication received as a result was priceless for zoologists, botanists, mineralogues, anatomists and researchers, including Charles Darwin.
"Color in nature" makes this wonderful publication available to today"s readers. Each color that Werner and Saym referred to is illustrated by examples from the world of animals, plants and minerals. Illustrations are taken from the collections of naturalists of the XVIII-XIX centuries. Readers can make out the tiled red on the chest of the bullfinch, porcelain jasper or face petals, admire the Berlin blue in the plumage of the soy, on the sapphire or petals of the liver.
Thanks to the complementary articles of leading experts in natural history, as well as more than 1000 color images, the book is an ideal illustrated color publication for artists, designers, illustrators, natural scientists and all who are fascinated by color
