In "Dostoevsky in Love," excerpts from the works of Fyodor Mikhailovich and historical context are intertwined. The result is a novel that immerses the reader in the grand perspective of Dostoevsky's world: from a Siberian labor camp to European gambling halls, from dank prison cells of the tsar's fortress to the refined salons of St. Petersburg. Christofi also tells the stories of three women whose lives were so closely intertwined with the life of the writer: the consumptive widow Maria, the impulsive Polina who had visions of the tsar's murder, and the faithful stenographer Anna, who did so much to preserve his literary legacy.
Christofi has created memoirs that Dostoevsky could have written if life and literary fame had not intervened. He offers a new portrait of the artist, who perhaps was previously unknown to us: shy but devoted lover, sensitive friend of the people, faithful brother and friend, and a writer capable of delving into the depths of the human soul.
