"Dogs in Cities" is a popular science study of the centuries-old history of the coexistence of dogs and humans in large cities. The book consists of three main parts, each of which reveals this little-studied but familiar topic to many readers in its own way. The part "Dogs in Cities" is a sociological essay based on a dialogue with contemporary philosophy and anthropology and the author's own research materials, uniting the themes of the city, humans, and dogs. The parts "Dogs in History" and "Dogs in Literature" focus on historical events and literary heroes, showing the evolution of the image of the dog in Russian society over the centuries. Myths about black dogs and knightly dogs, legendary dogs of the First and Second World Wars, pets of Alexander II, Nikolai Nekrasov, and Leo Tolstoy - these and many other plots are present in Maria Barykova's book "Dogs in Cities."
