It is difficult to name another person who would be simultaneously highly valued in academic circles and respected by a wide range of ordinary citizens. Marietta Omarovna Chudakova (1937–2021) remains in our memory as an example of a true patriot and citizen. In recent years, Chudakova wrote a lot for children and teenagers. "Do you want to learn how to think?" is one of the last manuscripts she submitted to the publisher. How to distinguish between feelings and opinions or beliefs? Can you change national character? Are you able - and do you consider it necessary! - to listen to your interlocutor? Are you ready to believe historical documents or have you been convinced that there are no exact truths in history? Each of these questions is dedicated to a whole chapter in the book. Marietta Omarovna suggests learning to think based on the material she herself studied - Russian literature and national history. Therefore, she did not produce a monograph or a textbook, but wise and interesting notes on what she read and experienced.
"Before the generation to which I dedicate and to whom I address my book, there is a grand task - to realize the unrealized possibilities of boundless Russia. To significantly improve the quality of people's lives, starting with healthcare and education. These are quite achievable goals, despite the level of corruption and the role of criminality. After all, this is our Russian saying: "Fear the wolves - don't go into the woods!" As strange as it may seem to someone, the main condition for success is the ability to think. A strange and dangerous situation has arisen in our country - the majority of its inhabitants (far from all of whom you would dare to call citizens) have forgotten (or have not had time to learn) how to think. The reasons for this are clear to me, even the names of the cynical culprits are known, but again, this is not the point. It's about whether it is possible to radically change the situation. I am sure it is possible. There can be different ways. Personally, I have chosen mine - I address people from seven to seventeen years old, those among them who are willing to respond to my call - to take and become wiser. I will try to help them. And - with their good will - I am fully confident in success." - Marietta Chudakova
