In the book "Distorted Democracy", Nadia Terribati diagnoses the problems faced by policies in the era of party passions and the monopolization of the mass media, and vigorously protects the main thing, which is resting to democracy, is the need for difficult compromises and the inevitability of ambiguous decisions.
The urbanity allocates three types of distortion of democracy: a non-political, populist and plebiscitarian. Each of them destroys a critically important separation, the preservation of which is necessary for a regularly functioning democracy - the barrier between the public public opinion forum and government institutions conducted by the will of the people. The non-political democracy puts the decision of the experts above political opinion. Populist democracy to the limit polarizes the public forum on which various opinions are expressed and discussed. A plebiscartic democracy is unreasonably great importance attached to the aesthetic and irrational aspects of opinion. According to the author, democracy implies a constant struggle for identifying the issues that citizens consider the main to their lives. Consequently, the expression of opinion is such a form of action that is no less important than the mechanisms of the organization of elections and the implementation of decisions.
Terribati draws his focus of his attention not so much on the open enemies of democracy, but on those who give themselves for her supporters, these are technocrats, concerned only by the correctness of decisions, demagogues, lesing "people", media signs who wish to turn political management into spectacular Sport, and citizens - in fans of opposing teams
