This monograph belongs to the pen of a prominent Russian historian, doctor of historical sciences, professor, leading researcher at the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the author of works on the history of Russian journalism, social thought and historiography.
The monograph for the first time with all possible completeness shows the historiosophical meaning of the work of N.Ya. Danilevsky for domestic historical science, the objective and subjective prerequisites for its creation are revealed. It traces Danilevsky’s life and creative path, describes the environment in which the scientist came to his discovery by the civilizational method of studying the historical process, showing the dramatic fate of the book itself, an acute struggle around the ideas expressed by Danilevsky. The work is based on archival materials, periodicals, memoirs and correspondence.
The first edition of the monograph was published in 1999, the second - corrected and supplemented - was undertaken in connection with the growing interest in the teachings of Danilevsky in the widest circle of readers, especially among historians, political scientists and politicians
