"The disjointed time", or "the time torn from its hinges" is a philosophical concept introduced by Jacques Derrida, a French postmodernist philosopher. Such a time generates fear, anxiety, uncertainty, often leading to nostalgia for the past. Derrida claimed that it is impossible to renew the understanding of the human's place in the world within the framework of the European philosophical tradition and conducted its total deconstruction. In ethical matters, Emmanuel Levinas, another well-known French postmodernist, had a strong influence on Derrida. In particular, Levinas stated that modernity inevitably gives rise to a crisis of the subject's identity, and the objective reality exacerbates this crisis by adding other problems to it. One of the most acute problems for Levinas was violence, in connection with which he examined the relationship between violence and spirit. Following him, Derrida dedicated a separate study to this theme.
