The reader is offered one of the fundamental studies in the field of Slavic comparative-historical linguistics - "A Discussion on the Language of the Savvina Book." The Savvina Book is an Old Bulgarian manuscript of Gospel readings from the 11th century, the only surviving Cyrillic manuscript of the Old Church Slavonic Gospel. The study belongs to the prominent Slavist of the early 20th century, a representative of the Moscow linguistic school, V.N. Shchepkin (1863-1920). In this work, a classification of Old Church Slavonic written monuments was proposed, which has since been included in all textbooks of Old Church Slavonic language. The main focus of the book is on the history of reduced and nasal vowels. Describing the language of the Savvina Book, V.N. Shchepkin used a rich comparative material for analysis, drawing on dialectology data. The work includes two phototypic images of the Savvina Book. The book is recommended for language historians, especially specialists in the history of Slavic languages, Bulgarian studies, Slavic studies students, and anyone interested in the principles and methods of comparative-historical linguistics.
