The author of the book, having preparations in literature, history, anthropology and clinical psychoanalysis, considers the question of how a person, controlling his appearance, tries to control his feelings. Considering that the psychology of appearance has not yet been sufficiently studied, Kilborne combines examples from literature and its clinical practice in its book to make the following statement: shame and appearance are the main reason for fear that arises in literary characters and real people.
