The Dictionary is full of dialectal vocabulary and phraseology of all Russian folk dialects of the 19th - 20th centuries. The Dictionary is also interested in those Russian dialects that are in a foreign language environment, as such dialects may preserve features that have been lost or poorly reflected in the main Russian dialect array. The Dictionary is based on direct observations of live folk speech, recorded both in the past and in our time. Works of oral folk art are also used, which contain many lexical features of local speech. In some cases, testimonies of writers with an explicitly ethnographic character in the text of literary works are also used. 2nd edition.
