The Goncorov Prize is considered one of the most prestigious prizes in literature, and not only in France. But do everyone know who is behind her? Since 1903, the Prize for the "Creative Opening in Prose" has been awarded annually according to the will of Edmon Goncur.
French writers Edmond and Jules Goncura did a lot first in due time. Everything that we are accustomed to love in French classical literature seemed to begin in the novels of the Gonkur brothers or, at least, is described in their diaries (they also introduced fashion for diaries), where Dumas, Balzac, Zola, Herzen, Turgenev, Turgenev, Turgenev. Dode, Maupassant, Hugo, Flobert ...
Diary began to be released in France in 1887, the last, 22nd volume, was released in 1896. The first Russian translation of the chosen pages of the diary published in 1898 by the Northern Herald magazine is reprinted here
