This edition presents the novel "The Devil's Elixirs," dedicated to Hoffman's favorite theme of the destructive action of the dark side of the human personality. The intrusion of evil into a person's soul is explained by both hereditary reasons and the influence of external, demonic supernatural forces. The main character is the monk Medardus, who accidentally tastes a mysterious liquid from a crystal flask and becomes an involuntary carrier of evil. The narrative, told from his perspective, allows the reader to follow through monastery passages and cells, and then through the colorful world, experiencing everything that the monk endured in a life of horror, terror, madness, and absurdity... Addressed to all who are drawn to the world of mystery and the unusual. The edition is supplemented with comments by the translator Vladimir Mikushevich.
