The 1990s influenced the Russian high-tech sector in two ways. On the one hand, there was a sharp decline in production, and on the other hand, thanks to the emerging economic opportunities began to arise numerous companies of the new wave. Some of their numbers acquired fame both in our country and abroad. But the cumulative scale of their activities is still far from complying with the needs of the domestic economy. This work is devoted to the study of the history of the formation and development of about forty Russian companies and several foreign, which developed approximately under similar conditions. In parallel, some significant problems of the development of high technologies in terms of information and hardware for the needs of industry, energy and consumer sector are considered. Addressing prioritization issues.
