The name of Nikolai Leonov is well known to fans of the detective genre. In the 1950-1960s, the future writer worked on the Moscow criminal investigation department, and having left the authorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the rank of captain, he took up literary work. The tavern on Pyatnitskaya is one of his most famous works, exciting the story of the NEP times. An employee of Moore is being introduced into the gang of recidivated criminals, but it turns out that in the camp of police there is a gangster agent. It is very difficult to calculate the spy by both, and Leonov masterfully retains the intrigue until the denouement itself. The novel “Agony” is also included in the publication, the plot of which also unfolds in Moscow of the 1920s. Like the Tavern on Pyatnitskaya, the story Agony was filmed (the film One without Weapons), and scenarios for both films that have become a classic of domestic action -packed cinema were written by Nikolai Leonov
