Henry Ryder Haggard is an English writer and author of many historical and adventure novels, whose geography is very wide. The novel "Daughter of Montesum" is dedicated to one of the most dramatic moments in the history of Mexico - the struggle of its indigenous population, Aztecs, with the Spanish conquistadors led by Ernan Cortes.
Young Englishman Thomas Wingfield, leaving his beloved at home, sets off in search of the killer of his mother in Spain, and then to America. The fate of Surov with Thomas: his ship is wrecking, the young man falls into the hands of the Indians and becomes the husband of Otomi, the daughter of the emperor Aztecs Montesuma. The incredible adventures of the Englishman do not end there - he has to fight with the Spanish conquerors, transfer torture, rule the Indian tribe, and survive the loss of his son and wife. But, in spite of everything, Thomas will remain a man who holds the word and keeps his honor and dignity.
