The Russian detective of the German police, Countess Elizaveta Nikolaevna Apraksina, again faces an unusual business. The Russian emigrant - a failed artist, an adventurer and a convinced hero -lover - was found dead in his own apartment under the most mysterious circumstances. To find the killer, the countess has to investigate the heroic mechanics of the hero over his women. The action again takes place in the variegated environment of Russian emigration, where millionaires and politicians, creative people and fraudsters, monks and aristocrats, new emigrants and descendants of the “first Russian wave” are found. The countess must correctly evaluate all these people in order not only to determine the killer among them, but also to unravel the psychological background of the crime
