Sinju - the double suicide of lovers who are not destined to be together - is not uncommon in Edo, the capital of Japan of the Tokugawa era. Inquiry in such cases is nothing more than a formality. But the young Yoriki (in other words, the police officer), the son of poor Ronin and former historian Sano Isiro, whom the judge instructs to quickly close this case, is in great doubt.
