For the first time, Requiem for a Dream was published in 1978. The book tells about the fate of four inhabitants of New York, who, unable to withstand the difference between dreams of an ideal life and the real world, are looking for consolation in illusory Erzats-replacements. The main character of the novel, according to the author, is dependence, and the book itself is the manifesto of the triumph of dependence on the human spirit. This is a requiem for all those who betrayed their lives for a rainbow illusion and lost a person in themselves.
