The name of the Czech writer, teacher and historian Edward Shterch is widely known not only in his homeland, but also in other countries. The adventure novels of Storch, dedicated to the distant past of mankind, to this day are of interest among the young (and not only!) Readers. The storm has repeatedly visited archaeological expeditions, took part in many excavations - and in order to share his knowledge with the young generation, he began to write books about the life of primitive people. Thus, the main character of the most successful novel by Shtorch “Hunters for Mammoths” (1918) was born-a boy Koschy, living 20-30 thousand years ago somewhere in the current southern Moravia. Smaching, like all his relatives, is engaged in collecting, fishing and hunting, and in his free time he frolics with the same boys as he himself, enjoying the sun and air. Under the guidance of a strong leader, the fellow tribesmen wander away, choosing more safe and satisfying places for parking. Each in the tribe has their own role: men hunt, feed women and children, and they lead the household, sew clothes from skins and are on duty at the hearth. Primitive people are in danger everywhere: they die from the paws of predators, get sick, fight with their neighbors, sometimes starve, freeze. At the same time, each day is filled with amazing meetings with wild animals and elements for modern man ... An affair with illustrations of the wonderful Czech artist Zdenek Burian is published in Russian for the first time in full translation!
