The unusual, fascinating and informative book of the famous domestic writer and artist Nikolai Nikolaevich Karazin (1842–1909) describes the path of autumn migration of cranes from our middle strip to distant Africa.
The genre of a travel diary was very popular in the literature of the XVIII - XIX centuries. The author, along with his hero, travels, describe their observations and share with the reader, travel impressions. This is what happens in the book From North to South. Only her hero, a young man who knows the world, is not a man, but a crane.
This book is not only about animals, but also about people. The author puts his discussions about good and evil in the mouth of the crane, about love for the motherland, about serving the public good, about the unreasonableness of bloody stripping and much more.
In the book, the author’s illustrations are reproduced, created by him for the first edition of the work.
