May Sheval and Per Valeye - Swedish journalists, authors of the famous novel cycle (1965–1975) about the police commissar Martin Beke, who earned prestigious literary awards both in Europe and in America. Under the pen of the spouses Sheval and Valu, the detective genre “ceases to be a game of imagination and an entertaining reading divorced from reality” (“Times”) Along with the puzzle, the decision of which the police must find under the leadership of Martin Bek, in every novel there is a background: Sweden of that time, with its problems and contradictions, with recognizable social types, with “ceremonial” places and the evil corners of the Swedish capital.
“The flight to the scaffold” (1968) in 1995 took second place in the category of “novels that realistically depicts the work of the police”, from the list “100 best novels of the criminal genre” of the Association “Detective Writers of America”.
