At the end of the XIX - beginning of the 20th century, the detective, or, as he was then called, the criminal novel, was not in honor of critics and literary elite, but used the great love of readers. Among the most famous authors who laid, in the words of V. Bonch -Bruevich, the Cornial Stone of the Russian Detective, is a fiction writer, journalist and editor Andrei Efimovich Zarin. For a long and fruitful creative life, Andrei Efimovich wrote more than a hundred books. In the 1890s, his work was dominated by "households" novels about the "spiritual world of offended and circumvented people": small officials, firefighters, photographers, and booth actors. The two -volume, which goes out in the series "Big Library of Adventures and Science Fiction", includes the chosen works of Andrei Zarin, including detective stories. The criminal theme was not the main thing in his work, but in pre -revolutionary Russia his criminal novels ("in search of a killer", "fourth", "our respected", etc) were considered a classic of the genre
