Seventeen-year-old Anna Chikkoni is arranged for the summer of a nanny in a rich house on the Atlantic coast near New York. Everything goes well, but every day in the picturesque Herron-Mills, she begins to notice more and more oddities: others react very unusually to meeting her, showing surprise and even fright. It turns out that six months ago, a young girl of Zoui Pipanos, very similar to her, disappeared into the village without a trace. And Anna itself is increasingly visited by vague images and memories: it begins to seem to her that she had already been in these places before. At some point, the circumstances of the death of Zoui appear before her mental gaze. And - oh horror! - In this tragedy, it seems that she herself is to blame. What is it - deja vu, memory quirks, or is something much more terrible behind this?
