This is the third volume of detective anthology, in which in previous years the books “not only Holmes" and“ just not the butler ”were published. All three volumes were created by participants in the famous translation seminar under the leadership of Alexandra Borisenko and Viktor Sonkin. This time the book of the genres of the American detective, twenty -five short stories of twenty -five authors, included the book. These are classic intellectual puzzles, in the best traditions of English detectives, and works from the category "killing in the locked room", and a description of the adventures of scammers and adventurers. But the central place in the collection is allocated, of course, to the “cool detective” and his youngest colleague “Noar”, unique genres, which could be born only in America of this turbulent period, in the world of gangsters and corrupt police, underground bars and gambling houses, jazz improvisations and Great depression. A large -scale commentary deserves special attention, telling about the features of the time of creating works, from the arrangement of ships and police departments to the passion for psychoanalysis and the intricacies of criminal law
