"Coronation, or the last of the novels" (Great Svek detective) is the eighth book of Boris Akunin from the series "Adventures of Erast Fandorin". The action of this novel takes place in 1896, on the eve of the coronation of Emperor Nicholas II. Mikhail, four -year -old son of Grand Duke Georgy Alexandrovich, was abducted. The kidnapper calling himself "Dr. Lind" requires a diamond "Count Orlov", which is decorated with an imperial scepter, in exchange for a prince. If the deal does not take place, the child will be returned to parents in parts. But a coronation cannot take place without a scepter. Erast Petrov Fandorin takes the honor of the monarchy. The narrative is conducted in the form of a diary on behalf of Athanasius Zyukin, the butler Grand Duke Georgy Alexandrovich. The book recreates the tragic atmosphere of Russia at the end of the 19th century and describes the Khodynsky catastrophe
