Allan Quotermein, respected in the south of Africa, a hunter for elephants, meets two gentlemen on a steamer following from Cape Town to Durban. One of them, Henry Curtis, is very happy about this meeting - after all, the Quvothermain is familiar with his younger brother George, who disappeared somewhere on the way to the treasury of King Solomon. Curtis offers the hunter to join the search for George and promises him the inconspicuous wealth. Allan Quermeyn reluctantly agrees to this risky enterprise - because he, like no other, knows that they have a little chance of returning alive.
