The publication, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Alexey Shchusev (1873-1949), introduces the least studied pre-revolutionary period of the master's work. The book presents projects, sketches, and drawings of his famous Russian-style temples: the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh at Kulikovo Field, the Most Merciful Savior at the Natalyevka estate, the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Bari, and the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos Martha and Mary Convent in Moscow, which occupies a central place in the album. Also reproduced are little-known drawings of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Kugureshti, Lenin's Mausoleum, and a number of neoclassical chapels designed by the architect. For the first time, materials from Alexey Shchusev's collection of architectural graphics, received by the All-Russian Museum of Decorative Arts in 2020, are being published: these include templates for stone carving, sketches, and drawings of the Intercession Church of the Martha and Mary Convent. Visual sources are supplemented with unique decorative art objects collected by Shchusev during expeditions in Russia, including traditional fabrics that served as a source of inspiration for developing ornaments and decorating architectural objects. The publication includes materials from the personal archive of Alexey Shchusev's descendants and other private collections, many of which are being published for the first time.
