The next, fourth edition of the monograph on the problem of depression. The book, carried out 11 years after the publication in 2003, summarizes the results of studies of the author’s collective of the department for the study of border mental pathology and psychosomatic disorders of the Federal State Budgetary Institution of the NCPZ RAMS and the Department of Psychiatry and Psychosomatics IPO GBOU VPO PMGMU named after THEM. Sechenov. The rapid development of a scientific search in the field of affective pathology during this period and the polemic in a wide range of relevant problems required not only a significant processing of the book, but also the inclusion of sections re -written in it. The psychopathology of depressions is considered on the basis of the first presented original tranzological rhythmological model. In the light of this model, depressive disorders are ranked into a continuum, at the poles of which endogenous depressions subordinated to chronobiological rhythms are contrasted with somatogenic, induced by independent oscillators. The monograph presents typological differentiation of remissions, built on the basis of the interaction of the disorders of the two registers - constitutional and actually affective. A separate section is devoted to the analysis of the ratio of depression with constitutional pathology. Monographs of monographs that reflect the state of the problem of depression in mental (including schizophrenia) and somatic diseases, as well as covering modern approaches to the choice of adequate thymoanaleptic therapy, are significantly redesigned and expanded. The work includes chapters on the psychology and pathophysiology of depression, made by leading specialists in the relevant fields of science.
