Dostoevsky begins writing "The Devils" as a malicious anti-nihilistic pamphlet, but breaks free from the genre and creates one of his best novels - a political thriller, satirical action movie, religious drama, and existential tragedy all under one cover. About the series: "The Main Books of Russian Literature" is a joint series of the publishing house "Alpina. Proza" and the internet project "Polka." The works published in this series are selected by contemporary writers, critics, literary scholars, and teachers. It is an attempt to define what the Russian literary canon looks like today and offers a new perspective on well-known works: each book is accompanied by a foreword by the authors of "Polka."
