The English military historian and theorist Captain Basil Henry Liddell Hart, while serving as the editor of the encyclopedia "Britannica" and being forced to delve into various periods of military history, concluded that decisive results in any campaign were only achieved if the actions of the commanders were contrary to the enemy's expectations, "indirect," as he called them. His strategy of "the indirect approach," the search for the correct military doctrine, is explored in this book through the example of wars that have fundamentally influenced the development of world history.
