The Book of the American historian Monica Black is dedicated to the Berlin "Culture of Death and the death and practices associated with death, as well as what happened to them in the late 1920s - early 1960s. Did the views of the Germans changed to death during the first and second world wars, in post-war periods, during the division of the country to the Western and Eastern part? Did these views affect the politics of Germany or they themselves were determined by it? The material for the study of the dramatic collision of private everyday life with the "big" history is the rituals of the burial and commemoration of the dead, folk beliefs and urban legends, diaries and letters, publications in the press and official documents from German archives
