Guy de Maupassant (1850-1893) was a star of French and world literature, a classic, author of candid stories, novels, and a great number of novellas. However, having several affairs simultaneously, Maupassant drew inspiration from them for his works. Georges Duroy, the main character of the novel "Bel Ami," is a passionate lover of life who cares little about the pangs of conscience. Like a beast, he stalks his prey - a brilliant lady, a profitable marriage, advancement in his career. Maupassant also loved to emphasize his animalistic nature, calling himself a "machine for feelings and pleasures."
