Although Nikolai Gogol (1809-1852) wrote "Dead Souls" in the 1830s, this work remains relevant to this day, as it vividly and truthfully reflects the most important issues for Russia. Many characters in the novel - Chichikov, Korobochka, Nozdryov, Plyushkin, Sobakevich - have become iconic and are often mentioned in modern contexts. According to the poet Pyotr Vyazemsky, "speaking about 'Dead Souls,' one can talk a lot about Russia."
