The book is one of the few epistolary monuments of the Patriotic War of 1812, reflecting the privacy of contemporaries of these events. Letters of Maria Apolonovna Volkovka to her friend Varvara Alexandrovna Lanska published in the magazine "Journal of Europe" in 1874 and 1875, and the correspondence of Margarita Aleksandrovna Volkova - a separate publication in 1912 and has long become a bibliographic rarity. The entire casing of letters of 1812-1813 is published in this edition for the first time. The value and uniqueness of these 150 letters are that they are clearly a unique spirit of time, the atmosphere of what they lived, as they said, what did they want and what the representatives of the Moscow Society of the first quarter of the XIX century wanted.
