One of Charles Dickens' best novels, his "favorite child" and to a large extent autobiographical work, full of the charm of old good England.
David Copperfield is born a few months after his father's death. He starts his life under the care of a kind nanny and surrounded by his mother's love. However, as a young boy, he encounters envy and malice on his path and is forced to experience human cruelty, sorrow, and disappointment. Overcoming obstacles and enduring numerous hardships, David Copperfield is helped by the purity of his soul, clarity of thought, and greatness of his intentions. The novel's hero tells about himself, his dear ones, and the events that happened to them.
"'David Copperfield' is a fantasy, sometimes cheerful, sometimes touching, on the subject of life, composed of memories and the fulfillment of desires by a person with a lively imagination and warm feelings. And its entertainment value... is captivating." - Somerset Maugham
