Following a full-scale war with Norman Osborn, the head of the national peacekeeping organization HAMMER, and the Dark Avengers, the X-Men left San Francisco. Mutants raised from the bottom of the Pacific Ocean the sunken asteroid M and declared it a sanctuary for their kin and an island outside Osborn's jurisdiction. But Norman will not let the X-Men go so easily, especially those who betrayed him: Emma Frost and Namor, the king of Atlantis.
