The recent invasion of the Skrulls changed the world. Norman Osborn, formerly known as the archenemy of Spider-Man, the Green Goblin, proved himself on the battlefield as a natural leader and even killed the queen of the invaders, putting an end to the war. Since that day, he has held power over everything related to superhumans in America.
He disbanded S.H.I.E.L.D. and formed his own organization: H.A.M.M.E.R. Norman seized control of the 'Fifty States Initiative,' infiltrated superhero teams with his own people, and even assembled a personal squad of Avengers, mostly consisting of villains from the Thunderbolts. At the head of Earth's greatest heroes stood Osborn himself, clad in the red, white, and blue armor of the Iron Patriot.
Needless to say, this did not sit well with Peter Parker. Once again, he found himself at odds with the law, which now represented his archenemy. A few months ago, Spider-Man tried to overthrow Norman - just as Osborn was attempting to turn his son (and Peter's best friend) Harry into the American Son, his own version of Captain America. Peter failed to defeat the Iron Patriot, but he also couldn't sway Osborn's child to the side of evil. Furthermore, Peter's colleague at the 'Front Line' newspaper managed to infiltrate Norman's headquarters and obtain incriminating evidence against the former Green Goblin. Osborn's lackeys silenced her... but the truth always finds its way to the light.
