Roman "damn dolls" is a sample of a little famous reader "art historical prose" N.S.Leskova. Roman has a complex creative story. For a long time, he was considered unfinished. The first part of his part that was published in the magazine "Russian thought" in 1890, in the future published with the subtitle "chapter from the unfinished novel", the second - remained unknown. It was discovered in the creative manuscripts of the writer only in the 1970s. The design of this work dates back to the 1870s. And reflects the reflection of Leskov about the nature of the modern Russian person, who is under pressure from social circumstances, loses the ability to the will, i.e., according to the writer, becomes the "fucking doll". The final text of 1890 is a pamphlet image of the Nikolaev era, which serves as a background for setting a number of problems actual in the history of world art and closely conjugate with the criticism of the totalitarian regime, which has degraded to the fate of Russian art. The main heroes of the novel cause obvious associations with the emperor Nikolai I and the artist K.P. Bruner
