Edmond Rostan is a brilliant playwright who was destined at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries to revive the traditions of French romantic art. The glory of the plays created by him-“Princess Goynza” (1895), “Eaglet” (1900), “Shanthekler” (1910)-overshadowed the heroic comedy “Sirano de Bergerak”, first staged at the Port-Sen-Martin Paris Theater on December 27 1897. Her hero is the French poet and philosopher of the XVII century, a famous wit and duelist. This work of the 29-year-old author, thanks to the brilliant Alexandrian verse in combination with a piercing love intrigue, was destined to become one of the most played plays of the world theater.
published in this publication, the translation of E. Baevskaya fully reflects all the dramatic features of the original. The text is accompanied by afterword and comments
