Edmond Rostan is a brilliant playwright who was destined at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries to revive the traditions of French romantic art. The glory of the plays created by him-“Princess Goynza” (1895), “Eaglet” (1900), “Shanthekler” (1910)-overshadowed the heroic comedy “Sirano de Bergerak”, first staged at the Port-Sen-Martin Paris Theater on December 27 1897. Her hero is the French poet and philosopher of the XVII century, a famous wit and duelist. This work of the 29-year-old author, thanks to the brilliant Alexandrian verse in combination with a piercing love intrigue, was destined to become one of the most played plays of the world theater.
