The textbook offered to your attention is focused on the current issues of modern theoretical linguistics of the last decades, in which the anthropocentric approach to language (functionalism, communicative and pragmatic linguistics, cognitive science in its various aspects) has found the most complete embodiment. The book also covers the current state of some directions with a long scientific tradition (systemocentrism, comparativism, and typology). The growing concern of researchers about the dying languages has stimulated the consideration of areal linguistics problems in the textbook. The target audience of the textbook is primarily master's and doctoral students, which motivated the inclusion of methodological chapters and the approach to presenting the material in the book.
