The book offers an unusual angle: a look at William Blake through the prism of Russian culture. From the text you can find out how from “crazy”, mysticism and symbolist Blake in Russian criticism became a “militant humanist”, and then simply a significant poet and artist.
The author describes the palette of translation strategies in the arresting of Blake into Russian from 1834 to 2020. Here you can read the forgotten translations of Vladimir Elsner (Kyiv, 1912), as well as the first open translations from Blake Nikolai Gumilyov (Petersburg, 1919–1921) and Seraphim Remizova (Paris, 1920–1930) You can learn more about the poet and the artist-monichist, emigrant Boris Anrepe, who considered himself the heir to Blake and wrote his prophetic poems, many of which are not yet published.
