Urban Crafts in Russia in the Second Half of the 19th Century

This book continues the cycle of work on the economic history of Russia, dedicated to the history of domestic traditional forms of industrial production: rural artisanal crafts, urban small industrial production, artels.

The point of view that took place in Marxist historiography, according to which the rural artisan and city artisan were representatives of one social identity, prevented the study of the concrete historical appearance of the latter and significantly simplified the picture of the transformation of this traditional form of the fine industry in the context of the Russian modernization.

The study undertaken by the authors is called to partially replenish the gap in the economic history of Russia, associated with the display of one of the most difficult periods of the development of the Russian urban craft industry
