The collection, compiled by the Doctor of Historical Sciences A. E. Kotov (St. Petersburg State University), is dedicated to the polemic with the ideology and practice of left-wing radicalism in the Russian conservative press of the 1860-1890s. The tactics and strategy of this struggle depended in many respects on which branch of conservatism belonged to the publicist who suggested it: Katkov, Slavophil or estate-aristocratic. The publication included not reprinted after the revolution the polemic texts of the half-forgotten conservatives: P.P. Tsitovich, M.F. De-Pule, N. N. Golitsyn, N. A. Lyubimov, N. V. Shcherbany, I.F. Cyon, D.I. Ilovaysky, S.F. Sharapova.
