The book is dedicated to the cultural mutual influence of the Russian province and the center in the second half of the XVIII - early XX centuries. This relevant topic is considered on the example of the county city of Malmyzh, the Vyatka province and the territory adjacent to it, for which the author used numerous, including first -entered scientific circulation, literary and archival sources. The study convincingly shows how the outstanding representatives of Russian culture that found themselves in the outback not only reflected what they saw and experienced in their work, but also significantly influenced the development of cultures and art of the places with which fate associated them. The role of Malmyzh, as well as the landlord estates in the cultural development of the region, was characterized, to which such great personalities as A. N. Radishchev, A. Pushkin, M. Yu. Lermontov, F. M. Dostoevsky, m were involved in one way or another. . E. Saltykov-Shchedrin, L. N. Tolstoy. Great importance is shown for the development of the Vyatka south of the Siberian tract laid through these lands.
