The history of the Russian Empire under Peter the Great is one of the first and the most famous biography of Peter I in the XVIII century. It is represented in it as the Creator of the New Russia, the Hero of the Century of Education. Written by order of the Russian government, Voltaire’s “History” has gone in European languages dozens of times, gained world fame, but was not published in Russian without bills. This book is the first scientific publication of Voltaire"s History in Russian. Modern translation is equipped with an introductory article taking into account the world historiography of the issue, and comments reflecting the modern level of study of the Petrine era.
